Customizing your scoreboard

Make it yours

HockeyScore's default scoreboard looks great out of the box, but you can customize it to match your teams, league, or personal style. Consistency is what makes a stream feel professional — pick a look and keep it.

Team colors and logos

  • Colors — Set each team's primary color. These appear as accents on the scoreboard. Avoid two very similar colors — viewers need to tell teams apart at a glance.
  • Logos — Upload team logos as PNG files with transparent backgrounds. Keep logos simple; detailed logos with small text won't be readable on a phone screen.

Themes and layout

Choose a built-in theme that fits your style. A few guidelines:

  • Dark themes work best for most hockey streams — they contrast well against the bright ice.
  • Compact layouts leave more room for the game and work better on mobile viewers' screens.
  • Keep it minimal — Only enable elements you'll actually update during the game (score, clock, period, shots). An accurate simple scoreboard looks more professional than a complex one with stale data.

Positioning

Place the scoreboard where it won't cover the action:

  • Top corners are the most common and safest placement for hockey — they stay clear of the play.
  • Avoid center screen — That's where puck action happens and where viewers are looking.
  • Leave a small margin from the edges so nothing gets clipped on different devices.

Quick readability check

Before you go live, verify your overlay looks right:

  • Can you read the score on a phone at arm's length?
  • Is the scoreboard out of the way of the main action area?
  • Do team colors have enough contrast against each other and the scoreboard background?
