Connection issues
Control panel not connecting
Check your internet connection. The control panel needs a stable connection to communicate with the HockeyScore server. Try loading another website to confirm you're online.
Confirm you're signed into the correct account. If you have multiple accounts or are using a shared device, make sure you're logged into the account that owns the scoreboard.
Confirm you've selected the right scoreboard. If you have multiple scoreboards, verify you're controlling the one that's loaded as an overlay in your streaming software.
Try a different browser or device. If the control panel won't load on one device, try opening it on another. The control panel works in any modern browser.
Updates are delayed
A small delay between the control panel and the overlay is normal (usually under a second). If delays are longer:
Refresh the browser source in your streaming software. This re-establishes the connection to the overlay.
Check your streaming device's connection. The device running OBS/Streamlabs/PRISM needs a stable connection to receive overlay updates. If it's on a weak Wi-Fi network, updates may arrive late.
Close unnecessary tabs and apps on your streaming device. High CPU load can cause the browser source to lag.
Helper can't connect
Send a fresh invite. Old invite links may have expired. Generate a new QR code or link from the Helpers menu.
Check the helper's internet connection. They need to be online to connect to your scoreboard session.
Only one active controller at a time. If someone else is already connected as a controller, the new helper may not be able to take control. Disconnect the existing controller first.
Helper disconnects mid-game
Your stream and overlay keep running — only the helper's control connection is lost. To recover:
- Have the helper reopen HockeyScore and rejoin using the invite link.
- If that doesn't work, send a new invite from the Helpers menu.
- In the meantime, you can take over scoreboard control yourself from any device.
Switching controllers
To hand off control to a different person or device:
- Disconnect the current controller (or close HockeyScore on that device).
- Connect from the new device using the same scoreboard.
- Do a quick test — add and undo a goal to confirm updates are working.
Avoid having two controllers updating simultaneously. Conflicting changes can cause the score to jump unexpectedly.
